Ingredients:

  • 4x 150 g sirloin steak
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 50 ml tomato sauce
  • 25 ml chutney
  • 5 ml Dijon / German mustard
  • salt
  • black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 – 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 20 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 5 ml brown sugar
  • 75 ml red wine

Preparation:

  • Beat steaks to flatten and brown on both sides in a little oil or butter and oil combined. Transfer, in a single layer, to a shallow baking dish.
  • Add a little more oil to pan, and sauté the onions until starting to soften. Add the garlic and sauté a few minutes longer.
  • Mix together the remaining ingredients, pour into the pan, and bring just to the boil.
  • Pour over the steaks, and bake, at 160° C for 45 to 60 minutes, until tender, and the gravy has reduced.
